An artificial wetland intensive in macrophytes will be created for the treatment of wastewater from pig manure. A collection of 53m3 of liquid manure per day is estimated, which means picking up a total generated residue of 1,090 “pigs in closed cycle” per day, those including mothers and their offspring until the end of fattening. These are the animals that generate the largest volume of waste among the different types of pork, which reaches 17.75 m3 per year and 57.60 kg/square/year of nitrogen, as contained in Annex 1 of Royal Decree 324/2000, of 3rd of March, by which the basic standards for the management of pig farms are established. Besides the anaerobic basin as part of the system (which allows the capturing of emissions for possible future uses such as biogas), the lagoon itself serves as an alternative to reduce GHG emissions due to manure storage and because it prevents its spread to the environment as a fertilizer in forages and pasturelands.
